Q: I’ve seen a lot of stories in the news lately about unsafe nail salons. How do I know I won’t catch anything at your spa? A: Since your health and safety is our first priority, we don’t skip when it comes to sanitation. All porous implements, such as nail files, orangewood sticks and buffers are given to you at the conclusion of the service or thrown away. Stainless steel implements such as nippers and cuticle pushers are continuously cleaned and disinfected throughout the day. Callus files are washed with antibacterial soap after each use and stored between services in a hospital grade disinfectant bath. Piping in pedicure stations can harbor bacteria and germs, therefore we use only “pipeless” pedicure tubs and both the tubs and the mechanical “jets” are thoroughly cleaned and disinfected after each client. We use only hospital grade disinfectants or bleach to clean and sanitize our work areas, equipment and implements. Lastly, because of cross contamination, we maintain a strict policy to not perform service on anyone who presents with a questionable or potentially contagious condition.

Q: My nails are thick and discolored and when I came to your spa, your technician refused to give me a pedicure. Why? A: We love nothing more than to provide great spa services to our customers, but sometimes a client presents with symptoms that concern us and we cannot perform the requested service. We are not physicians, so it is inappropriate for us to diagnose any condition, however, as part of our licensing by the state, we are required to be knowledgeable regarding diseases of the nail and foot. State law prohibits us from performing services to any client who presents with any potentially contagious condition. As the technician probably explained to you at the time, thick and discolored nails can be a symptom of a nail fungus, a communicable condition that can be easily spread. We encourage our clients to seek a medical opinion and if necessary, treatment for the condition. If you can provide us with a letter from your physician stating that the condition is not contagious, we will happily perform the services for you.

Q: What are the best shoes to wear for my pedicure? A: Any shoes that expose all your toes and nails. The best we find are sandals with Velcro straps, flip flop thong style sandals or Birkenstock style sandals.
|
Q: How long before I can wear regular shoes and socks after a pedicure? A: Polish can dry to the touch in a manner of minutes, but it takes approximately two hours for four coats of polish to dry completely.
|
Q: Oops! I forgot my sandals. Do I have to go barefoot? A: No; we have our totally sexy foam pedicure slippers for you to wear. They will get you to the car, but we wouldn’t recommend that you do much walking around in them.
|
Q: I have acrylic nails. Can I get a manicure at Indulgences? A: We cannot do rebasing, but we can give you a modified manicure as long as your acrylic nails are well bonded to your nail plate and are not showing signs of lifting.
|
Q: My nails are thin and weak. Is there anything you can do to help me? A: Our licensed nail technicians can examine your nails and offer suggestions on how to improve the strength and condition of your nails.

Q: Why do I have calluses and what can I do to get rid of them? A: Calluses are a defense mechanism of the body, which creates calluses to prevent injury to the area. If you are athletic, you probably have calluses, which you need to prevent blistering. The number one cause of calluses is walking barefoot. If you really want to eliminate calluses, we would advise that you first, stop going barefoot. Second, purchase a foot file or a pumice stone and use it two to three times a week in conjunction with a good callus remover. We sell foot files and an excellent callus eliminator at the spa. Lastly, we would suggest that you use a good, emollient cream or lotion on your feet before bedtime and wear socks to seal the cream to your skin. If you make the commitment to good home care, you can be free of calluses in as little as 4 weeks.

Q: I’d like to get my husband a pedicure, but I’m afraid he would feel silly. Do you have any advice? A: More and more men are discovering professional nail services, but many men do seem a bit uncomfortable at the start of their first service. Our goal is to put them at ease as quickly as we can, and usually with 10 minutes, they are enjoying the service immensely. For his first time, you might want to book pedicures together, as our pedicure stations are side-by-side.

Q: Do you serve wine during pedicures? A: No, we do not have a liquor license, so we do not serve alcoholic beverages. If you would like a glass of wine during your nail service, feel free to bring your own bottle to consume. We have corkscrews and wine glasses for your convenience. |
