Meet Our Team
We are pleased to introduce you to the fine people who make Indulgences a great spa. Our staff is the foundation of our service philosophy and all the members of our service team are licensed professionals, with a wide range of knowledge and experience. We carefully screen all prospective employees for the skills and attributes that support our vision of quality client care. Upon joining our team, all of our service providers complete a vigorous in-house training program and are required to pass a skill certification exam prior to being scheduled for hands on services with clients. This assures that all of our clients receive the utmost in service quality and customer service.
Karyn Hansen – Esthetician
Karyn has been with Indulgences Day Spa since March of 2004 and is our esthetics team leader. Karyn has always had an interest in skin care and became an esthetician in order to help others look and feel their best. She loves seeing the immediate results from her work and is inspired to show her clients that you can get great results without resorting to invasive and drastic measures. Karyn also loves to educate and has taught several classes throughout the Metro area to aspiring estheticians. In her spare time, Karyn loves to search out antiques with her mother, is an avid fisherwoman, enjoys reading, taking care of her menagerie of pets, but, most of all, she enjoys being a mom.
Janet Kemper – Massage Therapist
Janet, our massage team leader, comes to us via Boston, Massachusetts and is a “wicked cool” massage therapist! Janet received her training at The Muscular Therapy Institute in Cambridge, Massachusetts and was inspired to become a massage therapist while working as a rehabilitation assistant in a physical therapy clinic. Janet enjoys working with clients over a period of time in order to help them achieve results and relief from chronic conditions. She especially enjoys working with clients suffering from headaches, neck pain and is our resident expert in pre-natal massage. Janet is also the Martha Stewart of Indulgences, since she cooks, she sews, she knits, she gardens…she does it all! Janet also writes a regular massage therapy column for the website examiner.com/denver.
Kara Wefel – Esthetician
Kara believes that everyone deserves to feel like they have beautiful, healthy skin. Kara joined our staff shortly after graduating from Xenon International in 2005 and loves learning all she can about new techniques, new ingredients and new processes that can help her clients’ look and feel their best. Her favorite part of giving a facial is the cleansing and the extractions, since she just “loves a good deep clean”! Kara enjoys reading, hiking, skiing, snowboarding and spending time with her dog Leo and cat Paddy.
Joshua Taggart – Massage Therapist
A love of anatomy and physiology motivated Joshua to pursue a career in massage therapy. Seeing clients recognize the progressive and positive changes achieved through bodywork motivates Joshua every day. He especially enjoys structural bodywork, feeling it to be the most beneficial technique for long term results. Outside of work, Joshua enjoys playing guitar, disc golfing, hiking, people watching and snowboarding. He also has done volunteer massage work at an area hospice and aspires to become a doctor in the future.
Alexis Eversole – Esthetician
Alexis is a Colorado native who took a detour to Oregon, where she went to college, became a chemist, worked in the semi-conductor industry, and then, realized and pursued her passion for esthetics. Alexis loves helping people feel more beautiful and relaxed; she says it helps her to feel more relaxed herself! She loves the interaction with clients and getting to know them personally. Alexis is known for her skill at putting people at ease, especially when they are nervous or are in an uncomfortable situation, such as during particular waxing services. You would never know it if you met her, but Alexis is still a self-described “science nerd” who gets really excited when the water quality report comes out!
Angela Whittaker – Massage Therapist
After receiving her first massage, Angela was amazed at how good she felt and she vowed that someday she would help other people experience that state of relaxation. Angela enjoys helping people relax and feel better, but she has a special talent for dealing with injuries. Her deep tissue and structural work is second to none. Angela loves seeing the changes in her clients’ body movement following a session! This Colorado native has three sons, two cats, Eva and Baby, loves football, and can’t spend enough time spoiling her new baby granddaughter.
Bre Brown – Massage Therapist/Esthetician
Bre began her spa career at Indulgences as a massage therapist, where she quickly developed a loyal client following with her amazing deep tissue work. After a year of working in massage, she decided to further her education and career by earning an associate’s degree in esthetics. Bre loves seeing the improvements her efforts create for her clients; whether it’s pain relief from her massage work or improving her clients’ complexion through esthetics. She also enjoys working with expectant mothers and assisting clients in dealing with the challenges pregnancy can place on the body. Outside of the spa, Bre enjoys spending time with her family, listening to music, and hiking in the Colorado Rockies.
Alexandra “Alex” Ohrt – Massage Therapist
A desire to help her grandmother motivated Alex to become a massage therapist. The ability to relieve pain and help people feel better inspires her every day. Alex has a special gift for Swedish massage and is especially talented at helping people relax. She is an avid equestrian and speaks German (she grew up in Germany). In her spare time, Alex enjoys on-line gaming, trying new foods, and spoiling her two cats. In the future, she would like to learn to play the bagpipes.
Nikki Christensen – Esthetician
Doing battle with her own adult-onset acne motivated Nikki to become an esthetician. Attending school, Nikki fell head over heels in love with esthetics and truly enjoys all aspects of her profession, from anti-aging protocols to waxing services. Nothing pleases Nikki more than helping clients figure out how to get the best skin possible and seeing them make progress. Outside of her work, Nikki enjoys camping, playing in the dirt at her home in “the sticks” and spending time with her family, including her Boxer, Jack.
Shay Church – Massage Therapist
A graduate of the Denver School of Massage Therapy, Shay loves structural and integrative massage work and truly enjoys helping clients help themselves through massage. Shay hopes one day to work in sports medicine, but for now really enjoys working in a spa setting, where she gets to help people be happy and feel better. When she is not busy being “awesome”, Shay enjoys reading, writing, hiking, biking and swimming.
Heather Steven – Guest Services
The smiling face you see when you walk in the door may belong to Heather, our guest services representative. Heather just loves people and finds that great customers and co-workers make her job a joy. Heather is currently taking a break from college coursework, but hopes to resume her studies in the future. She enjoys baking, hiking, drawing, reading, snowboarding and is currently learning guitar. She has two dogs, Vander and Ollie and for the past nine years has been a volunteer at Hope House of Colorado.
Mike Knapp – Spa Manager
Moving from Austin to Denver, Mike decided it was time to follow his dream of becoming a massage therapist. Upon graduation, Mike came to work for Indulgences where his natural gift for leadership, his passion for his work and his jovial spirit quickly made him a favorite of both our customers and his co-workers. Mike was promoted to spa manager in the spring of 2011, where he continues to inspire the staff and delight our customers. Mike volunteers his time weekly to a local food bank, enjoys cooking and gardening and has a 10 year old yellow lab named Dune.
Keli Jean Smith – Spa Manager
Keli began her career at Indulgences as a part-time guest services representative, while she finished her education at Metropolitan State College. Graduating in May of 2010 with a bachelor’s degree in Chemistry, Keli loved working at Indulgences so much that she chose to stay and become our spa manager. She has a passion for people and considers her day a success if a client finds their time at Indulgences special and memorable. Keli loves baking, making adorable sock monkeys, Scrabble date nights with her hubby, Adrian, as well as, spending quality time with her mom and brother-dog, a boxer named Moose.
Kirk Lansdale – Owner
Behind every successful enterprise, there is usually someone who toils diligently behind the scenes, and for us, that person is Kirk. Kirk keeps this place running smoothly and makes sure the bills get paid, the shelves stay stocked, the products get purchased and paychecks get issued. Kirk shovels the snow in the winter, weed whacks the alley in the summer, changes the light bulbs, furnace filters, schedules all the repair people and service technicians, helps keep us in clean laundry, and takes care of anything that needs taking care of. We couldn’t do what we do without him!
Virginia Lansdale – Owner
When Virginia worked in the electronics industry, she would go to spas as a way to deal with her stressful job. She never really found a spa she liked, so when the opportunity arose, she set out to create the experience she had been looking for and Indulgences was born. It has always been her mission to provide each and every client with a warm welcome, personalized service and a good value. Virginia has lived in the Highland neighborhood since 1995 and is a the third generation to reside in Northwest Denver; her grandmother owned one of the row houses that now houses La Loma restaurant and her mother graduated from North High School in 1939. Virginia enjoys cooking, baking fabulous cupcakes, and gardening in her spare time and also spending time with her cats and Corgi, Tock.
